Free Japanese Hair Extensions

I was walking around near Shibuya Station and noticed a Japanese girl handing out free colored hair extensions. Her free extensions caused a group of Japanese girls to gather around, as is common when something cool and free is being handed out. I thought it was strange to be handing out hair, even for Tokyo, so I decided to check it out. Turns out she was a promotions girl for some Japanese cosplay / costume company called Good Luck. There was a little Good Luck cosplay catalog attached to each piece of hair she was giving away.

Good Luck (Gluck.tv) runs a Japanese language website that features costumes, masks, sexy Japanese cosplay outfits, lingerie, and other related items. They seem to be doing some extra promotion for Halloween 2008, and I guess that’s why they had the girls out on the streets handing out free stuff.

Every free hair extension (available in colors including purple, pink, blue, and blonde) was attached to a small catalog showing some of the items that the shop sells. In the catalog, they also promoted some other brands and websites – like the Japanese lolita / hime gyaru brand Liz Lisa. I guess these were probably cross promotions with some of the companies whose products they carry.

Here are some pictures of the extensions and a girl handing them out on Center Gai in Shibuya. Unfortunately, by the time I went to take a photo, the big group of Shibuya girls had left, but at least you can get an idea of what was going on.

There are more pictures of the catalog and the girl giving away extensions on the Tokyo Fashion Flickr page.

There are actually a lot of street promotion that goes on around Tokyo. Most of it seem to be host club related, rather than fashion related, but I’ll keep my eyes out for more Japanese fashion street promotion and report on it here if I see it.
