Harajuku Kawaii Party w/ Japanese Fashion Shows, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu & Capsule Live

When Tokyo entertainment and model management company AsobiSystem throws a party, they don’t mess around. Their recent 4th Anniversary celebration – dubbed the “Harajuku Kawaii” party” – included the appearance of over 50 Japanese models, fashion shows by some of Harajuku’s top indie fashion brands, the debut live performance by rising star Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, a concert by Japanese electro gods Capsule, a talk show about the history of Harajuku with Cheki Master Yone, and much more.

Asobi System Harajuku Kawaii

TokyoFashion.com is located in Harajuku. AsobiSystem have an office here, and also manage a number of models who are extremely popular in Harajuku (including Kyary), so we were really happy when they invited us to their big birthday bash. The lineup for the party was absolutely amazing, a who’s who of this moment in Harajuku history. Our good friends at 6%DOKIDOKI and Spinns Harajuku held fashion shows, Yasumasa Yonehara of Harajuku’s CexWork hosted a talk show along with Sebastian Masuda, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu did double duty as a model and singer, and the crowd at the packed venue (O-East) was filled with kids decked out in Harajuku-friendly fashion. It was a Harajuku lover’s paradise.

The fashion shows at the Harajuku Kawaii party were organized more like Tokyo Girls Collection than New York Fashion Week. The models walking in each show were a mix of Japanese magazine models (Kera, Zipper, etc) and cute shop staff from the included brand’s Tokyo stores. Rather than being aloof and stoic, the models in these shows smiled and waved as fans cheered. Of course, we brought our camera so that we could share the Harajuku Kawaii awesomeness with you. Please excuse any less-than-perfect shots as we were on the floor in the middle of the excited crowd for most of the night!

The pictures below are mostly in chronological order to make it easier for you to follow along with the fun. The event progressed roughly as follows:

All these are such amazing photos that there’s no way for me to comment on them all, but I have to say that the model in the black dress and the retro hair near the top has an awesome smirk!!! She looks like a badass.
