Hysteric Glamour x Medicom x Herman Makkink

I was in Hysteric Glamour Aoyama (aka Hysterics) recently and I found something awesome. Is there someone on your Christmas list this year who is really hard to shop for? Someone who loves Japan, but you just can’t find exactly the right gift for him or – better yet – her? Well, meet the ultimate gift for just that person…The Rocking Machine!

Hysteric Glamour Medicom Rocking Machine

Just seeing a picture isn’t really understanding the full awesomeness of this collaborative art piece. They’ve got “The Rocking Machine” on display at the Hysteric Glamour store in Aoyama – and it’s huge! We’re talking larger than life size. It’s about two and half feet (80cm) long and over a foot (34cm) wide.

The project is a collaboration between the Hysteric Glamour fashion brand, the Japanese toy company Medicom, and Herman Makkink – the designer who created the original piece that was used in the classic punk rock movie A Clockwork Orange. There is apparently a white version of The Rocking Chair that was already out, but this new version is a limited edition specially made for Hysteric Glamour Japan, and it’s all black.

The Rocking Machine is big and black and would make an awesome gift, but there could be one little issue. Are you feeling rich? This is a three way collaboration – which means that Hysteric Glamour, Medicom, and Herman Makkink all need to get paid. So, what does that mean to you? It means that The Rocking Machine will set you back over US$1250 (126,000 yen).

If you want to check one of these out in person before ordering it, we recommend you go quickly to the Aoyama location of Hysteric Glamour, while they still have them in stock and on display. If pictures are enough and you just want to order one online (and you can read Japanese), you can order directly from Rumors.jp.
