Shu Uemura to Exit American Market

We are very saddened to report that one of Japan’s most famous cosmetics brands will no longer be available in stores in the United States. Shu Uemura announced today that they are shutting down their US operations and leaving the American market. The announcement was made by their parent company, L’Oréal USA. L’Oréal said that they are shutting withdrawing Shu Uemura from the American market so that they can focus on larger brands in their portfolio.

Shu Uemura Leaving America

Until this announcement, Shu Uemura had been available in various chains in the United States including Neiman Marcus, Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, and Nordstrom. Once the brand exits the US market, the only way American customers will be able to purchase Shu Uemura items is through the brand’s website, or by importing them from another country.

This announcement affects only the US operations of Shu Uemura. Their Japanese business continues as usual, as does business in other markets worldwide.
