Spinns Harajuku Fashion Show Pictures – Spring 2011

Longtime TokyoFashion.com readers know that we’ve been fans of Spinns Harajuku since even before the shop opened last year. Spinns brought their funky street vibe directly to the heart of Harajuku, an area that has been infiltrated by international fast fashion brands in recent years. One of the things that makes Spinns seem especially “Harajuku” is their support for up-and-coming indie Japanese fashion designers and brands. Sure, the Spinns Harajuku boutique sells plenty of resale clothing and trend items, but the really cool finds are the handmade one-of-a-kind items created by young Japanese designers, some of them just out of university.

Not every shop that opens in Harajuku is a hit, so we’ve been happy to see Harajuku’s street fashion kids take to Spinns as well. When we’re out shooting street fashion snaps these days, it’s not uncommon for them to tell us that they bought at least part of their outfit from Spinns. So, last week when Spinns invited us to a party they were holding for their customers and friends, we didn’t even think of saying “no”.

When Spinns throws a party, fashion is naturally on the bill – along with good music (including a DJ set by Capsule’s Yasutaka Nakata) and lots of fun. The fashion shows held during the party all featured clothing that is available at their Harajuku boutique now – not collections that are six months or a year away from the shelves. At this event, they showcased several of the fashion brands that they stock, including the Fairy-kei friendly Milklim. Many of Spinns “models” are the actual shop staff, but to spotlight Milklim they brought in the uber-cute Japanese blogger (and Tokyo Fashion favorite) Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

Tokyo Fashion’s main street fashion photographer Kira made an appearance at the Spinns Harajuku party and grabbed a few quick snaps of the fun to share with those of you that couldn’t make it. Check out all of the pictures and remember, you can click on any of them to see high resolution versions!
