Takahiro Kawaguchi by atlier.Ta.a.Na 2012 S/S Collection

The 2012 S/S edition of Japan Fashion Week (aka Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week) in Tokyo is under way! Several times each day, TokyoFashion.com’s contributors are reporting back from runway shows and events all over town. Be sure to check out all of our Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo coverage.

On Thursday, October 20th, Japanese label Takahiro Kawaguchi by atlier.Ta.a.Na showcased their 2012 Spring/Summer collection on the runway at the Belle epoque College of Beauty.

Label creator Takahiro Kawaguchi was born in 1967 in the Fukuoka Prefecture of Japan. He worked in the family construction business until age 30, then left to attend a dress school in Nagoya. Kawaguchi enjoys creating original designs from denim in the form of skirts, dresses, and jackets.

Takahiro Kawaguchi by atlier.Ta.a.Na 2012 S/S collection shown at Japan Fashion Week had a singular focus – denim. The collection was inspired by poor and working class immigrants who came to California during the gold rush of the mid 1800s. The collection is basically a fusion of two cultures and times – 19th century pioneer Americana re-imagined by a 21st century Japanese premium denim brand.
