Towa Tei “Wordy” Mind-Blowing Music Video & Behind-the-Scenes Photos by Art Director Sebastian Masuda of 6%DOKIDOKI

What happens when you combine the powers of Towa Tei (the legendary Japanese musician who brought “Groove is in The Heart” into the world) with Sebastian Masuda (the mad genius who created the visual imagery of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s “PonPonPon” music video), and BAKUBAKU DOKIN (two quirky & crazy Japanese female vocalists in animal masks)? An explosion of mind-numbing insanity you must see – and hear – to believe!

Welcome to the music video dream world (or nightmare world, you decide) of Towa Tei’s new single, “Wordy” – featuring the catchiest reciting of the alphabet we’ve ever heard, and a surprise ending.

Towa Tei “Wordy” Music Video Featuring BAKUBAKU DOKIN

“Wordy” is the brand new single from Towa Tei’s upcoming seventh album Mach 2012. Mach 2012 will be released on May 2nd.

The “Wordy” music video – featuring beyond-catchy guest vocals by BAKUBAKU DOKIN – is directed by Yusuke Tanaka (who also directed Perfume’s “Spring of Life” video) with art direction by Sebastian Masuda. Because we’ve been huge Towa Tei fans forever, and we love Sebastian Masuda’s Harajuku brand 6%DOKIDOKI, we’re excited to share with you these special behind-the-scenes photos from the making of this amazing piece of video art.

Sebastian Masuda created the art, costumes, and masks for the video – as he’s done with Kyary’s recent music videos. The results here are very different! Those of you familiar with Sebastian’s other work will recognize some trademark elements – including the kawaii-meets-darkness in the masks, vivid colors and patterns, and lots of cute items scattered around the party setting. Though we can pick out a few visual themes in the video, that doesn’t mean that we can figure out exactly what’s going on. We’ll likely need to watch it another few hundred times before even scratching the surface!

If you’d like to dig deeper into the world of “Wordy”, check out these exclusive “Behind the Scenes” photos from Sebastian’s work on the set of the video. The pictures show how much love Sebastian put into creating each of the sets, even if you might only glimpse some elements briefly in the final music video.
