Harajuku Kawaii Street Snaps Spring 2012

Harajuku Kawaii started out as a small music and street fashion event. However, the Harajuku scene – led by the event’s main star Kyary Pamyu Pamyu – has boomed over the last year, and Harajuku Kawaii has exploded in popularity along with it. The Spring 2012 Harajuku Kawaii event was held at Tokyo Big Sight, and drew almost 7,000 attendees.

We reported on the fashion shows and music in our main Harajuku Kawaii Spring 2012 article. Now it’s time to take a look at what people attending the event were wearing. There are two main ways to look for current Japanese fashion trends at events like Harajuku Kawaii and Tokyo Girls Collection: you can look at what the models on stage are wearing, or you can look at what the people who bought tickets are wearing. We like to do both! For Harajuku Kawaii Spring 2012, we took street snaps of more than 50 people who were on their way into the event.

Broken Doll at Harajuku Kawaii

Along with the fun girls and guys who were attending Harajuku Kawaii for the fashion shows and music (Kyary, Negoto, Momoiro Clover Z, etc.), we also ran into several Tokyo fashion scene personalities. Those smiling faces include Broken Doll (above), the Grimoire Shibuya crew (just below), and Japanese photographer extraordinaire Yonehara “Just Call Me Yone” Yasumasa (at the bottom of the article).

Enjoy the Harajuku Kawaii street snaps, and let us know in the comments if you spot any fashion trends. We noticed the denim trends that have been showing up in our Harajuku street snaps, quite a bit of Nadia Harajuku and Spinns influence, and Kyary (with help from 6%DOKIDOKI) is unquestionably a strong force on many of the looks here. Don’t forget to click on all of the street snaps to blow them up so that you can see the accessories and details of the outfits!

A big thank you to all of the fun people we met while doing these street snaps! We hope to see all of them again – hopefully on the streets of Harajuku – soon!

Don’t forget to check out our previous report on Harajuku Kawaii’s fashion shows and music.
