Fashion Brand Number (N)ine, RIP

Sad news from the land of the rising sun. Ultra-hipster Japanese menswear brand Number (N)ine by designer Takahiro Miyashita is shutting down. This season’s collection will be the final collection for the brand. They will also be shutting down their Tokyo shop and their New York store by the end of 2009. According to WWD the decision is “personal not economic”, whatever that might mean.

Over at Hypebeast, they have a letter from Number (N)ine giving a few more details, but still not really enough to figure out what motivated Takahiro Miyashita to shut down his seemingly popular and growing brand. Even though this brand is ending, it’s pretty likely we haven’t seen that last of the highly regarded designer.
