The End Is At Hand – in Harajuku

Tokyo street fashion photo of a Japanese girl on Cat Street in Harajuku.

This friendly and fashionable girl was nice enough to pose for our photo in front of the Fiorucci shop in Harajuku. She is wearing a striking red t-shirt with bold retro-looking 3D text that says “The End Is At Hand”, along with extremely distressed / destroyed denim shorts, black high heel leather lace-up boots, and a striped conductor hat. For jewelry, she is wearing a multi strand necklace of balls that appeared to be made of frayed cotton or some other soft material, and wide black leather bracelets on each arm with zippers on both outside edges. The outfit is rounded off by a black Vivienne Westwood handbag.

It’s hard to tell in the above photo, but her pointy boots were quite interesting. They had some some missing eyelets and non-symmetrical lacing. Maybe they were vintage, or possibly intentionally distressed.

  1. Very cool look. Just curious, how easy/difficult is it to get people to stop and pose for pictures?

Thanks for the comment and nice site!

In certain parts of Tokyo, for example around Cat Street in Harajuku, many people are cool with posing for photos. In other areas, even nearby Shibuya, the rejection rate increases dramatically. But, we just keep trying until someone says yes. :-)

BTW, it’s interesting to note that, in general, we’ve found that the people with the most crazy fashion are more willing to pose for photos than the people with more normal “trend” fashion. Perhaps the really stylish people put so much more effort in that they are ok with having their look archived and admired by the masses.

  3. It’s interesting what you say about the people with the most crazy fashion being more willing to pose. I find it’s the opposite here in Toronto. Go figure.

I’ll be in Tokyo soon. Would love to meet up. Keep doing what you’re doing. Awesome stuff!

Yeaah, Vivianne Westwood. I just got some awesome sauce shoes from VW.
Anywayy, she looks like she’s crying in this picture. Is she, or I’m I just insane? ‘Cause it looks like she is to me. I’m probably wrong.
