Double Bun Hairstyle Girl, Heart Handbag & Harajuku Gremlin
We ran into these two friendly Japanese girls (and one friendly Gremlin) walking down the street in Harajuku. On the left is the exceptionally-colorful Matsuko, 17-years old. On the right is 19-year-old Ayuki.
Ayuki is wearing a simple-but-cute outfit consisting of a leather biker jacket from Hanjiro (a resale shop in Harajuku) over a graphic t-shirt that she received as a gift, skinny jeans from Moussy, and low black heels. Her accessories include a zipper choker from Claire’s and a black heart handbag covered in PaperSyndrome stickers (or backstage passes). Unsurprisingly, when we asked her about music, Ayuki said that her favorite band is …… PaperSyndrome!
Matsuko’s look – starting with her colored double-bun hairstyle – is a little more playful. Her outfit includes a fuzzy pink beret, a colorful patterned top that she got as a gift, a tiered red skirt that she handmade herself, playing card-print leggings, and red studded boots. Her accessories are numerous, including the large Gremlin around her neck, multiple hair accessories, earrings, round glasses, a polka dot bow tie, cute rings, and a plush Rat Fink charm that says “Love Rat”. Her purse features a piano-print, and she (like Ayuki) is also carrying a shopping bag from Spinns Harajuku.
Matsuko’s favorite fashion brand is RNA and her favorite band is Cantoy. Matsuko told us that she designed some of the accessories that she’s wearing (as well as her skirt), and she sells some of her cute handmade items through her official blog. When we looked at her blog, we thought that a lot of the DIY accessories that she makes would fit right in with fairy kei-friendly brands like 6%DOKIDOKI and Nile Perch.
