On Sunday, March 18th, Japanese label Yuima Nakazato showcased its 2012 Autumn/Winter collection on the runway at the Mercedes-Benz Connection.
In 2004, Japanese designer Yuima Nakazato entered the Fashion Course of Belgiumʼs Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts at the age of 18. After graduating in 2008, he returned to Japan to found his eponymous women’s label. He began creating order-made designs for celebrities in Japan and internationally – such as Fergie of the Black-Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga personal stylist and Thierry Mugler director Nicola Formichetti recently named Nakazato as a future talent in the “Best Dress-up” category. in a V Magazine article. In 2011 Yuima Nakazato presented its menswear collection on the runway in Tokyo.
Yuima Nakazato’s clothing and jewelry designs have been described as conceptual. He credits his outlook on fashion to growing up with artists as parents – his father is a sculptor, and his mother designs jewelry.
The Yuima Nakazato 2012-13 Autumn/Winter collection presented at Tokyo Fashion Week featured conceptual menswear looks that we likely won’t see being worn off-the-rack anytime soon, even in Tokyo.
