aptform 2012 S/S Concept Video
The 2012 S/S edition of Japan Fashion Week (aka Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week) in Tokyo is under way! Several times each day, TokyoFashion.com’s contributors are reporting back from runway shows and events all over town. Be sure to check out all of our Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo coverage.
As part of JFW, Tokyo-based fashion label aptform showcased their 2012 Spring/Summer collection via a new concept video.
Aptform creator Michail Gknis was born in Greece in 1973. In 2004, he graduated from the London College of Fashion, then interned at Issey Miyake in Tokyo. After a brief stint in Greece working in his family’s fashion house, Gknis moved to Tokyo in 2006. He launched aptform in 2008 at Japan Fashion Week. He has since showed in Paris, India, and Greece.
The brand concept is “wearable art for those who love art”. The brand’s designer – and the designs themselves – are influenced by both Japanese and Greek cultures. The 2012 S/S video is not a fashion show in the traditional sense, but rather a concept piece for the brand’s next collection. Tokyo-based photographer-musician Jaime de Almeida provided the filming and music. Sachi Yamashita and Mie Suzuki styled performer Nie’s hair and make-up.

If you’re in Tokyo before October 31st, you can check out the brand’s current collection at the temporary Cat Street pop-up shop Kiss Shot. Actor and 30 Seconds to Mars vocalist Jared Leto is a fan of the brand, and stopped into the aptform Tokyo location during his world tour visit to Tokyo in September.
The brand also has an exhibition at Belle Salle Shibuya during Japan Fashion Week. The aptform exhibition runs from Tuesday to Friday and (sadly) is not open to the public.
