Isetan Shinjuku “Ring Ring Wonder Christmas” Animated Holiday Windows by Klaus Haapaniemi
Isetan Shinjuku is one of the coolest department stores in Japan. Besides the fact that the store carries a great selection of Japanese street fashion brands – and most of the international blue-chip brands as well – Isetan’s buyer is famous for choosing up-and-coming designers who are destined for greatness. But fashion is not the only area in which Isetan excels. They are also known for their amazing promotional campaigns. For their 2010 Christmas campaign “Ring Ring Wonder Christmas”, Isetan hired world-renowned Finnish designer Klaus Haapaniemi to meld holiday imagery, whimsical animals, and environmental themes.
Isetan goes all out for their holiday campaigns. This year in addition to the amazing window displays in Shinjuku, Isetan and Klaus Haapaniemi have put together two beautifully illustrated Flash websites with English (and Japanese) text to share the “Ring Ring Wonder Christmas” artwork. Check out the main Isetan’s Christmas website – featuring a zoo filled with animated animals and holiday music – here and the men’s store artwork here. You can also see more pictures of the windows themselves on the artist’s official website here.
Photographing Isetan’s displays is not easy because there are huge brightly lit buildings across the street which create reflections on the Isetan windows. So, please ignore any wayward reflections you might notice! Also, don’t forget to click on each of these photos to see the wonderful artwork in high resolution.
As a bonus, here are this year’s Isetan Christmas Bearbricks – also in a window display outside of the Shinjuku Isetan store. Several different Isetan Bearbricks are created each year and sold to benefit charity. They usually sell out pretty quickly to toy collectors and those who wish to support charity around the holidays.
